Chris Randall, President and CEO of National Specialty Underwriters, Inc. (NSU), announced the opening of a new branch of NSU in Chicago, Illinois, today. NSU is a program administrator and wholesaler specializing in insurance for the hospitality and healthcare industries, as well as, arranging layered placements for a variety of catastrophic property and casualty excess risks. NSU is headquartered in Bellevue, Washington with branch offices in Boca Raton, Florida, Poughkeepsie, New York, and, now, Chicago, Illinois.

“The Illinois office will initially focus on medical professional liability for the healthcare industry, particularly allied healthcare facilities and non-standard physicians,” said Mr. Randall. “We are pleased to announce the opening, effective June 21st, of our new location:

We are also pleased to welcome Jim Stewart, RPLU, to NSU. Jim is a healthcare specialist and now is the founding member of our new Illinois office. He is truly excited about the opportunity to join the NSU team.”

Mr. Stewart has been in the insurance business since 1979, most recently with a Chicago-based wholesale insurance operation. His career includes underwriting and broking in the professional liability niche. Stewart moved from New York to Chicago in 1986 and has been in the medical malpractice field since then. He earned his Registered Professional Liability Underwriter designation (RPLU) in 1997 at the PLUS 10th anniversary international conference where he served as the conference chair. Mr. Stewart has a B.A. from Trenton State College and an M.A. from Loyola University of Chicago.

Mr. Randall concluded, “We continue to be excited about the opportunities in healthcare and the success we are having. We expect to add additional staff in our Illinois office as our business grows. We are actively pursuing additional bases of operation in the eastern United States. It is a volatile market for malpractice insurance and our goal is to apply our expertise and make the process of securing affordable, top quality insurance less difficult in the coming years.”
